Working Group / RIAC Expert Group on Subnational Competitiveness (GTECS)

In the framework of the Americas Competitiveness Forum in Cali, Colombia, the RIAC created the Working Group of Experts on Subnational Competitiveness (GTECS), with the objective to promote competitiveness in the hemisphere through the exchange of International experiences on subnacional competitiveness and the knowledge on the different methodologies in the elaboration of reports, measurements and competitiveness agendas in a provincial, state, sub-regional and city level.

Bogotá, Colombia will host the fifth meeting of the Working Group / Experts on Subnational Competitiveness (GTECS) of the Inter-American Competitiveness Network (RIAC). The GTECS, through its network of experts, has contributed to promoting the hemisphere's competitiveness through the exchange of international experiences on subnational competitiveness and knowledge about the different methodologies in the elaboration of reports, measurements and competitiveness agendas at the provincial level, States, sub-regions and cities.

GTECS IV was the first occasion in which the Group of Experts met outside the Americas. The tenth anniversary of Orkestra and Donostia - San Sebastián capital of European culture; Was a unique opportunity to celebrate the encounter. This was a moment that allowed to know the successful methodologies and public policies of competitiveness in Europe and the model of competitiveness of Euskadi, in the prestigious University of Deusto.

The Group of Experts on Subnational Competitiveness of theInter-American Competitiveness Network (RIAC) met at the Catholic University of Uruguay (Universidad Católica del Uruguay), in Montevideo, Uruguay, to exchange on challenges and opportunities for economic growth of cities, states and provinces of the LAC Region. The Meeting was organized by the Institute for Competitiveness of the Catholic University of Uruguay, in collaboration with the Organization of American States and with the financial support of the Government of Canada. In total, 43 representatives from 13 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Basque Country, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, United States and Uruguay) as well as 4 international institutions (CAF, ECLAC, IICA and OAS) attended the meeting.

The Working Group of Experts on Subnational Competitiveness (GTECS) of the Inter-American Competitiveness Network (RIAC) met from August 27 to 29, 2013 at the headquarters of the CENTRUM Business School of the Pontificia Universidad Católica, Lima, Peru . Representatives from ten countries (Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, United States, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, the Basque Country, Peru, Uruguay) and four supporting institutions of the RIAC (CAF, ECLAC, And OAS).
